About: Mandi is a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with a dual master’s degree in Expressive Arts Therapy and Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing. She prescribes medication, offers non medication interventions, therapeutic interventions including counseling and education. Mandi has experience working in the mental health field since 2006 treating individuals, children and families in the community. She has worked in private practice since 2017. She currently treats adults 18 and older.
Approach to Mental Healthcare: Mandi is a master’s level nurse practitioner and mental health counselor, in addition to her training in integrative medicine. As a trained and certified integrative mental health medical provider, Mandi supports a whole-body approach to mental health disorders, utilizing multiple fields of medicine and nutritional sciences. She enjoys aiding her patients in regaining mental wellness with individualized testing, nutritional therapies and dietary interventions as well as utilizing psychotherapy and psychotropic medications.
She works closely with your care team, which may include primary care, nutrition and other licensed mental health providers. She values the role your culture holds in your life, which may include: family, ethnic background, societal viewpoints and support systems. She uses relevant laboratory analysis to evaluate and treat underlying biomedical issues, which may include nutritional deficiencies. She offers pharmacogenomic testing which means that it analyzes how your genes may affect medication outcomes. Results can inform us about how you may break down or respond to certain medications commonly prescribed to treat psychiatric conditions. Mandi understands each person may need a different approach. By focusing on an individual's unique mental health and nutritional status Mandi can customize supportive treatment plans to provide better wellness outcomes.
As a trauma informed and gender affirming provider, Mandi is known for understanding her patient’s needs in a warm and compassionate way. She understands every day is different and encourages you to show up as you are. Mandi has strong patient education skills and approaches your medical care in a diligent manner. Her patients often report feeling comfortable and at ease, building long lasting therapeutic relationships. Mandi is a strong advocate for her patient’s needs and goals. She utilizes evidenced based practices to relieve your mental health challenges. It is important for her to partner with her patients and understand their struggles and goals, building confidence along the way.
Experience: Mandi began her professional career at Louisianna State University in 2000, where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies. She worked as an advisor to students in leadership and activities. During her time at LSU she volunteered during and after Hurricane Katrina disaster relief efforts. As a native Louisianian she was dedicated to aiding her community. This experience inspired her medical career. Mandi began her medical career working as a therapist after obtaining her master’s degree from Lesley University in Expressive Arts Therapy in 2009. Here she learned holistic, evidenced based and integrative approaches such as: motivational interviewing, person centered counseling, art/dance/music therapy and mindfulness. She worked on a PACT team in Boston as their substance abuse coordinator and also obtained a certificate in Addictions Counseling from Cambridge College in 2010. Later she worked as an in-home therapist, aiding children and families through traumatic life events. She went on to work as a supervisor on a crisis team in Lynn, MA, working with at risk children and adults in crisis. Mandi then obtained her Master’s in Nursing from MGH-IHP in Boston. She worked at a crisis stabilization unit in Lynn, MA as a community based nurse and also at UMASS Worcester in the psychiatric Emergency Room and inpatient units. Mandi has worked as a crisis clinician throughout the greater Boston area and Northshore. Additionally, she has worked in outpatient settings as well as inpatient Eating Disorder units including Walden Behavioral Health.
Realizing there was a gap in care for patients to see both a therapist and medication provider, she went on to obtain her master’s in psychiatric nursing at the IHP at Massachusetts General Hospital in 2015. Mandi went on to provide consultation to nursing home medical staff regarding psychotropic medication care and behavioral interventions for geriatric patients in long term care in Seattle, WA as a consultant. She also worked in a women's primary care clinic in Central Washington state as an integrative psychiatric care provider. Mandi has worked in outpatient community health in Springfield, MA with patients suffering from severe mental illness. Mandi has experience working in the substance abuse population, prescribing medication and offering interventions for long-term sobriety. She offers mental health consultation in her areas of specialty, including consults to primary care.
Mandi began working in private practice in 2017. She has completed extensive training in alternative and complementary medicine and is a Certified Integrative Mental Health Provider since 2020, in addition to being a registered yoga teacher. She understands that each person benefits from a specially curated plan of care. It’s important to have the skills to pivot for each patient’s needs. Professionals with High Stress Jobs: Mandi specializes in seeing the busy professional. Many of her patients work in healthcare including animal health. She has a strong understanding of working with teachers and nurses in regards to burnout. She is comfortable working with professionals in high stress jobs such as STEM, lawyers and executives as she is able to offer effective ways in reducing stress. This may mean resetting your goal path and integrating healthy coping skills into your lifestyle.
Chronic Illness: Mandi has a love and understanding for those with chronic illness such as autoimmune disorders and recurrent illnesses. Having a lifelong chronic illness herself, she understands how difficult navigating illness and healthcare can be. Her training as a nurse, yoga teacher and therapist help with understanding the complexities of medical trauma. Mandi is able to listen to your struggles with medical trauma and help you identify ways to advocate for yourself and decrease mood symptoms secondary to your illness. She encourages patients with these comorbidities to reach out.
Multicultural Backgrounds: Coming from a multicultural background herself, Mandi has a lived knowledge of the complexities and beauty in cultural diversity. She understands the nuances and differences in culture and how this can affect your approach to healthcare. She acknowledges cultural trauma and racism can effect mental health and may present differently in everyone. She is trained in this area and enjoys working with a variety of cultures.
LGBTQIA+ Affirming Provider: Mandi is an LGBTQIA+ affirming provider, working with this population for 20 years, predating her clinical experience including her work with college students. Mandi is a safe space and good resource for processing: Gender Dysphoria, navigating child or parent issues, identity and other challenges. An LGBTQ+ affirming provider is a provider who is an ally of the community, who is committed to providing competent care to LGBTQIA+ individuals, being educated on current terminology and issues facing the community, and honoring clients’ identities.
Women’s Reproductive Mental Health: Mandi enjoys supporting mothers with planning pregnancy around medications, providing peri and postpartum treatment for depression. She will see pregnant mothers more often for support and postpartum planning. She also treats comorbid mental health symptoms secondary to perimenopause and menopause and chronic illnesses such as PCOS and endometriosis.
Depression (including Seasonal Affective Disorder): Mandi enjoys working with patients who struggle with depression and offering education regarding symptoms, encouraging year-round treatment. She creates a specialized treatment plan for her patients who struggle with the New England weather, monitoring their vitamin D closely.
PTSD: Mandi is trauma informed and works with trauma patients daily. She has extensive experience with a variety of patients suffering from PTSD including: intimate partner violence, medical trauma, childhood trauma and trauma experienced in the workplace (including healthcare). Regaining a sense of safety and security is vital after a traumatic experience. Incorporating grounding techniques may be helpful to you as you recover and heal.
Victims of Narcissistic Abuse: Mandi works with adults who are the victims of childhood, workplace and relationship narcissistic abuse. Mandi works closely with her clients to build resiliency, identify patterns that no longer serve you, identify ways to set boundaries, identify and understand the cycle of abuse.
Sleep and Lifestyle: Lifestyle interventions such as nutrition, mindfulness and sleep hygiene are the cornerstone of health. Mandi will work closely with you to identify your barriers to optimizing your wellness and ways to increase overall wellbeing including sleep and energy levels. This may include: medication, cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia, supplements and mindfulness activities.
Grief and Loss: Mandi specializes in grief and loss, including: loss of spouse, family member, pet, job loss, loss of health and identity and transitional changes. She has a nonjudgmental approach to supporting you through these painful times. She can offer guidance with coping through loss.
Eating Disorders and Body Dysmorphia: She is one of the few providers in our area who works with eating disorder patients. She specializes in Body Dysmorphia and will aid you in decreasing cognitive distortions around body image, food and health. Often eating disorders and body dysmorphia coincide with other mental health struggles such as: PTSD, anxiety, OCD and depression. Mandi can help you identify your triggers and increase your resiliency.

About Mandi:
Mandi grew up in a family of medical providers. Her mom was a nurse and Mandi often tagged along to home health or nursing home visits. Her grandmother was a registered dietician who often enlisted Mandi as her nonofficial assistant. She has lived in both the USA and Iran. These days, Mandi enjoys spending time with her husband and family which includes dogs and cats. She loves hiking and wilderness adventures especially in the Monadnock and White Mountains. Mandi is an avid indoor and outdoor gardener and lover of house plants. She loves cooking, especially Persian and Southern cuisine. Mandi likes to travel and learn about different cultures and learn new languages. She enjoys making and looking at art. She has practiced yoga since 2006 and also practices mindfulness.
